Professor Franco Favretti

It is our great privilege to have Prof. Favretti working exclusively for Healthier Weight in the UK. The vast experience he brings to the most straightforward gastric band or complex revisional surgery allows us to provide the gold standard in obesity surgery.  Prof. Favretti places a relentless focus on safety and quality of care - as he often says "The procedure may be simple, the patient is not".

Professor Favretti is on the GMC Specialist Register. He has performed over 5,000 bariatric procedures including 4000 gastric band and 1000 gastric bypass , sleeve gastrectomy, duodenal switch and BPD/Bandinaro operations. He has also published more than 150 scientific papers, book chapters and articles and regularly chairs surgical conferences and academic seminars.

Dr Gianni Segato

Dr Segato is a distinguished surgeon and colleague of Prof. Favretti with over 20 years experience in obesity surgery . He also works exclusively for Healthier Weight in the UK. In the 1980s Dr Segato worked closely with Prof. Favretti and Dr Kuzmak to implant the first laparoscopic LAP-BAND in 1993. Subsequently Dr Segato helped to promote the gastric banding procedure and to train surgeons throughout the world in the laparoscopic technique.  

Dr Segato is GMC registered.  He has performed over 5,000 bariatric procedures including 2500-3,000 gastric band and 1000 gastric bypass , sleeve gastrectomy, duodenal switch and BPD/Bandinaro operations.

Mr Ameet Patel

Mr Ameet Patel has been Consultant Surgeon at Kings College Hospital, London since 1999 and he is one of the most highly experienced obesity surgeons in the UK.

He performs the full range of obesity surgery procedures including laparoscopic gastric banding, laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, laparoscopic duodenal switch, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and laparoscopic revisional obesity surgery.

He has organised training courses for other bariatric surgeons and published a number of obesity related papers.

Professor Basil Ammori

In March 2009 Basil Ammori moved to Salford Royal Hospital in Manchester as a Laparoscopic Surgeon with special interest in Bariatric Surgery and to North Manchester General Hospital as a Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary and Laparoscopic Surgeon. To date, he has successfully performed over 1000 laparoscopic bariatric procedures including many gastric banding and gastric bypass operations.

Mr Jamie Kelly

Jamie Kelly was appointed as consultant surgeon at Southampton University Hospital NHS Trust in 2008 following a two year fellowship in Australia. With obesity surgery training in the UK and overseas he has considerable experience in gastric banding, gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and revisional procedures. Mr Kelly operates from the Nuffield Southampton Hosptal on behalf of Healthier Weight.

Mr Kelly is currently involved in national and international research trials to optimise patient treatment and care.

Paul Super

Mr Paul Super

Paul Super has worked as a senior Upper GI surgeon at Birmingham Heartlands & Solihull NHS Trust and as Honorary Consultant at Queen Elizabeth University Hospitals Trust

His main interest is in oesophago-gastric surgery and in particular laparoscopic surgery. Each year he performs over 100 laparoscopic cholecystectomies, 100 laparoscopic anti-reflux procedures and 400 laparoscopic gastric band insertions for obesity.  

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a member of the British Obesity Surgical Society, Association of Upper Gastro Intestinal Surgeons and a member of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.

In obesity surgery he set up the well known Heartlands Hospital NHS surgical obesity service which serves approximately 10% of the population of England. He carries out valued clinical research into obesity surgery, regularly presenting and publishing this work.

Dr Ahmed Massoud

Dr Ahmed Massoud

Ahmed Massoud is a Consultant Paediatrician and Endocrinologist at Northwick Park Hospital and an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Child Health at Imperial College School of Medicine. He graduated from University College London, trained in General Paediatrics in various London hospitals, and did his subspecialty training in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at The Middlesex and Great Ormond Street Hospitals. Dr Massoud’s main interests are general paediatrics, growth disorders, thyroid disorders, pubertal problems and childhood diabetes.
