• Performed obesity (bariatric) surgery as early as 1990 with adjustable gastric banding, invented by Dr. L. Kuzmak
  
• Developed and standardized the surgical technique for the laparoscopic application of gastric banding (LAP-BAND) along with Drs. Franco Favretti and Guy-Bernard Cadiere in September 1993. The technique has been adopted worldwide by most surgeons using the LAP-BAND
  
• Experienced in laparoscopic gastric surgery (over 400 patients operated upon with excellent results)
  
• Organized 15 international workshops where over 120 surgeons worldwide were given "hands-on" training on the laparotomic and laparoscopic application of LAP-BAND
  
• Has given over 15 lectures abroad
  
• Published more than 70 medical articles in journals including Obesity Surgery, and other Italian and European surgical journals
