An Australian study recently published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition looked at the long term risks of excessive weight gain during pregnancy in 2,000 women. Women who gained large amounts of weight were four times more likely to become obese in later life.
Interestingly, this association was independent of other lifestyle factors suggesting that excessive weight gain during pregnancy could be used by doctors as an indicator of obesity risk in middle age. We now know that it is not necessary to “eat for two” during pregnancy.
Use any time you have before your baby’s born to plan an exercise regime – regular daily walking with baby will do wonders for both of you.
