I Feel LIke a Proud Father

As I look out of my consulting room window at the torrential rain (yes, it is August) and all prospect of a pleasant summer’s evening bike ride goes to pot, I find myself searching for the things that bring me joy.

Sunshine is high on the list right now. Also, if someone could invent an umbrella that would sing “Don’t leave me this way” as I disembark from trains, exit coffee shops etc that would please my wife.

However as I cast my mind back over the last few week’s one piece of news that brought me a lot of joy was the news that one of our patients had given birth to a baby boy and (here’s the smug bit) had named him after me and our Health Educator Stuart. There now exists a little William David Stuart in the world and mother Liz is over the moon. After five miscarriages and two stillbirths, Liz had almost given up on becoming a mother but with the aid of a gastric bypass she lost 12 stones. Stuart, who will become a father in October, is equally delighted. On such a miserable, rainy day, this is indeed a heart warming story.
