Dr Ashton's November 2009 Newsletter - Healthier Weight's new surgery patient care

Dr Ashton, Medical Director

Continuing Healthier Weight's commitment to providing the gold standard in patient aftercare, I am pleased to announce the launch of two new products:

 Gastric Band Patient Card

Lots of companies promise good aftercare following obesity surgery but do they deliver?  At Healthier Weight we do!  We are confident that no one tries harder to provide outstanding aftercare.

All Healthier Weight obesity surgery patients are issued with a 24 hour helpline number to call any time of day or night should they need reassurance or advice.

Gastric band patient card

In addition we are now introducing an emergency patient card to pop into a wallet or purse in case of an accident or medical event so that any doctor anywhere in the world, who may be unfamiliar with the gastric band, can give us a call.

We have liaised with doctors in India, the Dominican Republic, Canada and closer to home to make sure that the gastric band is not unnecessarily removed or damaged by an inexperienced on duty surgeon.

vitaweight - a unique range of vitamins and minerals specifically formulated for weight loss surgery patients

VitaWeight range of vitamins and minerals for weight loss surgery patients

Following weight loss (bariatric) surgery, patients are recommended to take vitamin and mineral supplements for life. This is to compensate for the body's reduced ability to absorb nutrients after surgery and to maintain a healthy nutrient balance.

We are pleased to launch our NEW VitaWeight range of vitamins and minerals to meet the special nutrient needs of a bariatric patient.

Are VitaWeight supplements suitable for me?

VitaWeight vitamins and minerals have been designed spceifically for patients of all weight loss surgery procedures, including gastric band, gastric bypass, Biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) and duodenal switch, and sleeve gastrectomy. The number of tablets it is recommended to take each day will depend on the procedure.

How do VitaWeight supplements differ from high street brands?

Soluble - Research shows that only 10% of vitamins and minerals taken in tablet form are absorbed by the body whereas 98% are absorbed when dissolved in liquid. Unlike most other high street brands, all Vitaweight supplements are soluble, ensuring maximum absorption. This also means they are suitable for use immediately after surgery and for all surgery patients.

Higher vitamin and mineral concentrations - To compensate for the body’s reduced absorption capability, the VitaWeight concentrations of vitamins and minerals are considerably higher than in high street brands. For example, each VitaWeight iron tablet contains 20mg of iron, 400% higher than most high street iron formulations.
