Obesity Surgery

Why trust Healthier Weight as your BPD/DS Provider?

Biliopancreatic Diversion (BPD) and Duodenal Switch (DS) – often just referred to as BPD/DS – is the most effective surgical intervention available for the treatment of obesity problems.  It is also the most technically demanding and should only be performed by highly experienced surgeons

As with standard Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) obesity surgery it combines both restriction and hormone changes, but unlike a gastric bypass,  Biliopancreatic Diversion / Duodenal Switch surgery  has a much stronger malabsorptive element.  Whilst the procedure is much less commonly performed than any other obesity surgery, it has a number of potential advantages which, for the heavier patient, make it an option worth considering.

  • World class surgeons with unparalled obesity surgery experience, inc. Prof. Favretti

  • Unrivalled aftercare service with all the medical, nutritional and personal support you need after your procedure, including 24 hour emergency helpline

  • FREE behavioural programme to give you life skills on weight loss and maintenance

  • FREE tubes of VitaWeightTM vitamins and minerals

  • How is the operation performed? The Biliopancreatic Diversion (BPD) was first performed by Nicola Scopinaro, which is why it is still sometimes called the “Scopinaro” procedure

  • The Bandinaro - Another version of the BPD/DS developed by Professor Franco Favretti is the Bandinaro which we often recommend to patients who have had previous gastric banding, but have not managed to achieve their final weight loss goal

  • Advantages of BPD/DS Patients can eat much more normal meals than with standard Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP), resulting in greater satisfaction

  • Disadvantages of BPD/DS There is a period of intestinal adaptation during which there may be frequent loose bowels, sometimes up to 10-15 times a day....

  • Our aftercare package Healthier Weight's aftercare programme for patients who have undergone a BPD/Bandinaro procedure includes the following:
