The Bandinaro

Another version of the Biliopancreatic Diversion obesity surgery developed by Professor Franco Favretti is the Bandinaro which we often recommend to patients who have had previous gastric banding, but who have not managed to achieve their final weight loss goal.

The procedure is so called because it combines the malabsorptive aspects of the Scopinaro Biliopancreatic Diversion, but with the restrictive component provided by the band – hence “Bandinaro”.  It’s important to understand that because the band is left in place, the stomach is not removed.   Technically the correct name is “biliopancreatic diversion with gastric preservation and proximal gastric restriction” – but Bandinaro is easier!

Because the stomach is not removed or cut, you can eat relatively normal sized meals when compared with other obesity surgery procedures.
