Gastric banding has a major – often dramatic - impact on a wide variety of obesity-associated conditions. There is, quite simply, no other therapy which improves quality of life so much. And, in particular, no other therapy that so clearly protects people from premature death and disability. A study on lap band results published in Obesity Surgery in 2007 by Healthier Weight showed that gastric banding reduced the risk of premature death in obese subjects by 60%
Type II diabetes
60% of gastric band patients will have complete resolution of their diabetes
Hypertension
75% of gastric band patients will be able to reduce or stop their anti-hypertensive (blood pressure) medication
Dyslipidaemia
75% of gastric band patients show major improvement or complete resolution of abnormal blood fats (eg cholesterol and triglycerides)
Sleep apnoea
Around 75% of gastric band patients on CPAP† will be able to discontinue this and almost all will experience major improvements in sleeping patterns and reductions in snoring and daytime fatigue
Reflux
More than 90% of gastric band patients will experience major and rapid resolution of symptoms
Stress incontinence
The majority of gastric band patients experience marked improvement or complete resolution of symptoms
Infertility and PCOS*
LAGB has been shown to correct the underlying hormonal problems and to restore fertility in 90% of cases
Asthma
Almost all gastric band patients with asthma experience marked improvement in symptoms and a reduction in medication
