"Roux-en-Y” Gastric Bypass (RYGBP)

Gastric bypass weight loss surgery – also know as “Roux-en-Y” gastric bypass (RYGBP) after the Swiss surgeon called César Roux (1857-1934) who devised it – combines both restriction and an effect on gut hormones to induce and sustain long-term weight loss.  The gastric bypass operation is more involved than gastric banding and involves dividing both the stomach and the bowel.  Despite its more invasive nature, in expert hands RYGBP is a relatively safe and extremely effective form of weight loss surgery.
