Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories

Carol's bypass story - a year on

Carol's Gastric Bypass Story - Part 3 - 2 years on!

It is now 27mths since my gastric bypass operation and I have now lost 13 STONES and a bit. I am now a very comfortable size 16 ..considering I use to be a size 32-34 …so yes I am now half the person I use to be. My weight has evened off these past 4-6 months and I think that this is now "me” weight. I am so happy with “me”, I don't regret a single moment or “cost” to get me here”.

HOW HAS LIFE BEEN? – Well life has been great!! People constantly comment on my weight loss – the majority of them still do not know the true secret. It is so lovely but strange to be able to go into any shop and buy any item and know that it will fit me without any problem at all. I no longer have to shop at “OUTSIZE SHOPS” either on the High Street or online. One of my “discoveries” is buying designer frocks. They all cost me a fortune and are all now too big for me …..so they are off to EBAY!

FOOD – I still struggle with certain foods …especially bread ( I can usually manage ½ a slice at a push), and hard meats such as pork & beef. I find it easier to eat very small portions but more often, 3- 4 times a day. As a nurse I work 12hr shifts and need to eat small amounts on a regular basis to keep me going or I can feel faint.

I go through phases when I start to eat something and I feel that it suddenly gets “STUCK” in my oesophagus (just behind my breast bone). When this happens I have to stop eating at once and rest until this feeling goes. It is very much trial and error but I have learnt to avoid the foods that continually get "stuck".

WHAT NEXT FOR ME ? – God has been very kind to me with my weight loss – I don’t have any loose skin on my face or neck and very little on my arms or legs  but I will need some cosmetic surgery around my thighs and stomach.

I am still in contact with quite a few people that have had surgery and we support each other with “tips”. It is a must to keep in touch with other folk who are going through the same experience for advice, help and support
