Bernadette suffered anxiety about her body from an early age, attempting her first diet when she was only 15. “It’s difficult when you are a teenager. I had very little confidence but I would smile and put on a brave face to compensate. I’m not sure my family ever really realised how I was feeling even though being large seemed to be a family problem. My grandmother was a big woman and so was my mum. They say it doesn’t run in your genes but I’m positive there’s a link.”
After years of yo-yo dieting, trying every new diet available, (the cabbage soup plan put her on the loo for a week, she says) and attending slimming clubs with no long-term success, Bernadette finally got in touch with Healthier Weight to discuss the weight loss options available to her.
Bernadette tells the Coventry Telegraph how her gastric band surgery improved her health and her life, but points out that although it is not an easy option it is worth every penny.
