  • Other considerations - Safest weight loss surgery procedure. Regular and professional aftercare and band adjustments essential

 

Gastric Bypass

More about a gastric bypass
  • Age - Over 40
  • BMI - Over 45
  • Diet History - Poor results when dieting
  • Other considerations - More invasive than band surgery but safe and effective, especially with high volume surgeons. Very effective Type II diabetes (immediate resolution in many patients) and Reflux solution. Vitamin and mineral consumption needs to be carefully managed. Good aftercare essential to minimise health risks and risk of weight regain. Limited options in the event of weight regain

Sleeve Gastrectomy

  • Age - Over 20
  • BMI - Over 35
  • Diet History - Poor results when dieting
  • Other considerations - Limited data as the procedure has only become popular inthe last 3-5 years. Poor option for patients suffering with reflux. More invasive than band surgery but safe and effective, especially with high volume surgeons. Multiple options in the event of weight regain, including banding, bypass and BPD

BPD / DS

More about a BPD / DS
  • Age - Over 40
  • BMI - Over 55
  • Diet History - Poor results when dieting
  • Other considerations - Complex and invasive surgery. Few surgeons and hospitals able to do it. The most effective weight loss solution available. Vitamin and mineral deficiency a real risk and needs specialist management

 

Gastric Balloon

More about a gastric balloon
  • Age - Over 18
  • BMI - 27-35 
  • Diet History - Some history of successful dieting
  • Other considerations - Temporary procedure. Early explantation due to intolerance risk - data indicates 5-10%. Sustaining weight loss after removal depends on changing diet and exercise habits while balloon is in place. Most patients suffer several days of nausea and / or sickness post implantation
