Life After The Programme

Physical activity - beach family

A common question is “what happens after the programme ends? Will I just put the weight back on?”  A good question!  And the answer depends on whether you:

  • Continue to practice the behaviours you will have learnt in the previous 10 weeks.

  • Keep in touch

  • Continue to use the Weight to Go range of shakes, energy bars and low calorie meals

  • Attend the behavioural programme support group meetings

  • Drop in regularly to be weighed

After eating the Weight to Go nutritional products it is understandable that people want to reintroduce other foods as the weight loss programme finishes. This transition can be a little daunting. Hence, the weight loss programme incorporates a two week transition phase (weeks 9 and 10), to equip you with some basic nutritional knowledge so that you can confidently make healthy informed choices to protect your weight loss and overall health.

However, many people choose to continue using some or all of the nutritional products once the programme has finished - either to continue losing weight or to support them during the weight maintenance period.  This is good practice!  At Healthier Weight we all eat our own Weight to Go products as a means of life long weight control – the blender can often be heard whirring away at lunchtime making a strawberry and banana smoothie for example.

After the 10 week course you are invited to attend the Behavioural Programme Support Group Meetings, which are held on monthly basis for 90 minutes. These are a great opportunity to learn more about protecting your weight loss and you can also meet and share ideas and experiences with others.

Healthier Weight also provides a ‘drop-in’ facility. This involves arranging an appointment with your Health Educator weekly, fortnightly or monthly to have an individual review. Most of our patients use the drop-in facility years after completing the programme.

So, you can see, we are not just here to help you lose weight in 10 weeks. In fact people say that losing weight is the easy part. Using the skills and experience of the Healthier Weight team we want to act as your coach and support you in the longer term – helping you to achieve your goals in weight loss and weight maintenance.

Aftercare following Behavioural Weight Loss Programme

It’s very tempting to think once you have lost weight “Yes, I’ve cracked it this time! I’ll never put the weight back on.”  Unfortunately all too often we see people do spectacularly well in weight loss but not in weight maintenance.  It’s easy to confuse the two.  Yet, weight maintenance is quite different.  It requires different skills.  That’s why at Healthier Weight we offer:

  • Two weeks free transition from our behavioural weight loss programme to your “normal regime”
  • A regular continuity “drop in” programme so you can get weighed and keep in touch
  • Monthly support groups solely for weight loss programme patients (not obesity surgery patients) so you meet/stay in touch with others like you
  • An email newsletter with ideas and motivational tips to stay on track
