Embracing Indoor Workouts: A Guide for Bariatric Patients
Reading Time: 2 minutes The transition from outdoor to indoor workouts due to cold weather might seem discouraging, especially for those who’ve embraced the fresh air and more open
Andi’s weight loss journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Just three months after his mini bypass surgery in October 2022, Andi has lost an incredible 7 stone, going from 32 and a half stone to 25 stone 13. This is a significant accomplishment and it’s clear that Andi is on the path towards improved health and well-being.
One of the most striking aspects of Andi’s journey has been his positive outlook and dedication to maintaining his new eating habits. Despite the challenges of adjusting to a new way of life, Andi reported having a great Christmas, eating small portion sizes and not feeling like he was missing out. When he and his wife Di went out to eat with friends or family, they would share one larger meal between them both which they found would be enough and meant eating out could still be enjoyable!
Upon his annual visit to the theatre, Andi stated he would usually look for an end-row seat in fear of not fitting anywhere else. This year, he didn’t have to worry about fitting in a seat and said that “for the first time in a long time, I sat in the chair and fitted!”
This along with many other amazing life changes is what makes having weight loss surgery more than worth it to get your life back on track.
Andi used to be a “secret eater”, hiding his eating habits from Di, but has since become more open and honest about his past now he has come to terms with his eating addiction.
“I worked away a lot and found there were literally points on my way home when I couldn’t pass a Mcdonald's without getting what we call a ‘cheeky cheese’. It felt like it was calling my name”

Andi continued to discuss how he had almost detached from the knowledge of what his overeating was doing to him. He didn’t feel guilty because it was such an ingrained habit and addiction that he couldn’t get out of. Since his surgery, Andi no longer feels food has a hold on him in this way and says his mini bypass has ‘given me my life back.’
In addition to his improved eating habits, Andi has also seen physical changes that have improved his quality of life. He is now able to fit into “normal” clothing, like jeans, and has even treated himself to a new pair of trainers. Shopping is now easier, as he can finally fit into 3-4XL-sized clothes compared to his 8XL prior.
Perhaps most importantly, Andi now has hope for a brighter future. He has struggled with his weight for much of his life, and due to the premature death of his father, he never thought he would make it past 50.
Now, with his weight loss and improved health, Andi can finally see himself living a long and healthy life, and is looking forward to losing even more weight to continue to get fitter, happier, and healthier. He even has aspirations to get down on the floor to play hungry hippos with his grandkids one day!
Andi’s weight loss journey serves as a testament to the power of determination, commitment, and a positive outlook. He is proof that it is never too late to make a change and take control of your health.
