Reading Time: 2 minutes The transition from outdoor to indoor workouts due to cold weather might seem discouraging, especially for those who’ve embraced the fresh air and more open
There are many different forms of weight loss surgery, from the gastric band to bypass and sleeve. However, they all essentially limit the amount of food an individual can eat by making the capacity of the stomach much smaller. All surgeries are completed through what is known as keyhole surgery, which is a “minimally invasive surgery carried out through very small incisions” (Oxford Dictionary). The procedures take a different amount of time depending on the one you choose, however before that, it’s important to decipher if weight loss surgery is right for you to begin with….
Before deciding if you want the surgery, it’s important to know the steps it takes to reach some results you’ll be happy with. Before your surgery, you follow a diet that’s called the ‘liver reduction diet’. This is when you essentially are limited to a diet with lower calories you are used to, particularly low in carbohydrates and fat. This is to reduce your liver, making the surgery possible for surgeons to perform.
Once this is completed, you have your surgery where your surgeons will perform a series of steps to reduce your stomach, depending on which surgery you choose/have. Then you enter phases of different diets including liquid, puree, or solid foods. The purpose of this phase is to allow your stomach to heal after surgery and help you adapt to your new body.
Once reaching the solid phase, you can essentially eat ‘normal’ meals. However, it’s still extremely important that you are consuming enough nutrients and following the guidelines that we at Healthier Weight offer, in order to keep you fit and healthy. On the nutrition side, your day-to-day will include taking specific vitamins which can be provided by Baricol, or other brands.
Throughout this process, you will have support from our staff, especially our nurses and aftercare team to help keep you on track and ensure everything is going smoothly. They will also help answer any questions or queries you may have after your surgery.
Once you’ve considered this step, you may want to check your BMI. Depending on the surgery you desire, you will have to fit into the threshold to see if you are eligible for weight loss surgery. This is because not everyone can have weight loss surgery as it is mainly an option for obese patients who are looking to live a healthier and happier life. The following surgeries we offer at healthier weights require these BMI’:
> 30 – Gastric Sleeve and
> 35 – ESG
> 35 – Gastric Band, Gastric Sleeve, Gastric Bypass or ESG
