Celebrating the Season of Giving: Healthier Weight’s Christmas Initiative
The growth in popularity of weight loss surgery
In the heart of the holiday season, Healthier Weight embarked on a journey that embodied the spirit of Christmas – giving back to those in need. Recognising the challenges many faces, including mental health and access to food, our company aimed to make a difference.
For many of our bariatric patients, the festive season can be a difficult time, with mental health and food-related struggles often intensified. With this in mind we wanted to support charities helping those with similar issues, aiming to make a meaningful impact.
Mind - Mental Elf Run
The first act being taken in the ‘Mental Elf Run,’ an event designed to raise funds for ‘Mind’, a charity dedicated to ensuring that “no one faces mental health issues alone”. Participating in this run not only raised crucial funds but also served as a reminder to both our staff and patients that during these months, it’s important to open up, speak out, and seek support that is available.
Birmingham Central Food Bank
Throughout December, our office became a hub for collecting donations for the Birmingham Central Food Bank. As a community-driven initiative, this act aimed to contribute towards helping hunger in the UK, a cause that remains critical, considering that in 2022, “over 2.1 million people in the UK lived in households relying on food bank support”.
Every can, every box, and every donation contributed no matter how big or small can majorly help alleviate the pressure for those struggling with hunger in our local communities.
