Embracing Indoor Workouts: A Guide for Bariatric Patients

This April, Healthier Weight will support JDRF in their 26.2-mile charity run/jog to create awareness of people living with type 1 diabetes. Our very own Victoria Billingham, head of patient support, is taking on the challenge throughout the month and is determined to reach the finish line. In light of the great cause, we as a company will be by Victoria’s side, helping her finish the last 5k on the 29th of April 2022.
We are incredibly proud to have a team that cares and has a conscious mind about our world and that every story is different. Victoria holds this charity very close to her heart as, at the age of 17, she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
"Diabetes tech has improved vastly over the past 23 years, and I am so grateful for this. I am now wearing the Omnipod pump. It has given me a new sense of freedom (from the multi-daily injections) and helped me gain tighter diabetes control. Mt latest HbA1c was 49, and I am determined to keep my diabetes management well controlled. Exercise helps greatly with maintaining this. It is important that diabetes fits in with my lifestyle. Keeping fit is essential to me not just for my physical but also for my mental health. I am head of patient support at Healthier Weight. I am proud of what I do. I encourage and monitor our patients' progress, all of whom must change their current lifestyle to help them achieve their goals following weight loss surgery. I am not a 'natural born runner', so this challenge pushes me outside of my comfort zone. However, the diabetic community and our patients are my inspiration and will help me power through the challenge and beyond!".
