For those who have struggled to lose weight with other methods such as diet plans, boot camps etc. the gastric sleeve is a long-term solution to losing weight and keeping it off.
The Gastric Sleeve is a type of weight loss surgery or bariatric surgery.
A bariatric surgeon makes small incisions through keyhole surgery into the abdomen. Once inside the stomach the weight loss surgeon removes around 80% of the stomach and creates a new one with the remaining portion — which is formed into a sleeve-shaped tube. Hence why it gets the name “gastric sleeve”.
The gastric sleeves help you lose weight in two ways.
Patients who have gastric sleeve surgery can usually expect to see 60-70% of excess weight loss in the first year of having the weight loss surgery.
This is of course assuming the patient follows the guidelines of working with the gastric sleeve. It is not a magic fix, the patient must work with the surgery.
