At our clinic reviews with patients, we will always talk about diet, eating habits and exercise, as well as filling or re-filling the band.
If I had a pound for every time I’ve heard a patient say that they don’t have time to exercise I wouldn’t be a Band Butler!
The truth is that people often get confused by the difference between ‘exercise’ and increasing calorie expenditure. It’s increased calorie expenditure that we want. We know most patients, especially in the early days, are turned off by the idea of getting into gym/exercise gear. The good news is that there is no need to.
There are many ways to increase calorie expenditure by doing the everyday things that prevent you from ‘exercising’. In general, anything that gets you on your feet and moving is good.
If you do nothing else just try and spend a little more of the day on your feet;
• When the kettle is boiling walk up and down the hall.
• Stand up and walk around when you are on the telephone.
• Try and do the everyday chores a little faster than you used to.
The combination of these changes could help you use 100-200 more calories every day without joining a gym and before you even make any changes to your diet. Give it a try.
At your band review appointments, we want to check what you are eating, how you are eating, review calorie expenditure and, finally, fill your band. When all of these factors are aligned you’ll see steady, healthy weight loss and reach your weight loss goals more quickly!
