The mini gastric bypass is an alternative to the traditional Roux-en-Y gastric bypass that more and more patients are considering. It is also growing in popularity in the NHS.
The mini bypass differs to the Roux because there is only one new connection (anastomosis) made to the bowel, rather than the traditional 2.
It’s worth considering because the weight loss results and health benefits are at least as good as those for the Roux. There are pros and cons for both and the main disadvantage is that a proportion of patients will experience acid reflux. For those patients with a history of reflux, the Roux-en-Y bypass remains the better option.
So, why consider mini? In a nutshell:
- About 70% excess weight loss.
- No risk of an internal hernia (due to only one anastomosis).
- Slightly shorter operating time.
Healthier Weight is the only private provider to offer mini bypass in private hospitals. Our surgeons Mr Rishi Singhal and Mr Markos Daskalakis are experts in weight loss surgery who do mini bypass in both their private and NHS practices.
If you would like to arrange a consultation with Mr Singhal or Mr Daskalakis, we will be pleased to arrange this. They are based in Birmingham but don’t despair if you live a long way away as they will be pleased to schedule an initial consultation over the telephone or using video conference.
