Why Weight Loss Injections Aren’t Always The Right Option
Reading Time: 2 minutesWhy Weight Loss Medication Isn’t for Everyone In recent years, weight loss medications and in particular weekly weight loss injections have seen a massive surge
A recent BBC article released shocking information about a patient who went for bariatric surgery abroad and came back with more complications than she thought. Pinky Jolley, a woman who underwent a botched weight loss operation in Turkey, may be able to eat solid food for the first time in three years after surgeons in Solihull corrected the procedure. After paying £2,100 for a gastric sleeve operation abroad, Ms Jolley suffered severe complications, including a life-threatening infection and a ball of concretised pus inside her.
Lead surgeon Prof Rishi Singhal, the UK’s leading bariatric surgeon, had to release her colon, liver, and spleen, which were out of position. The NHS has spent over £100,000 treating her complications.
Ms Jolley, who is disabled and couldn’t afford the higher cost of private surgery in the UK, faced a significant leak and had her stomach “jet washed” to save her life. She spent three months on intravenous antibiotics and has since been fed liquid through a nasal tube. Prof Singhal and his team performed a complex by-pass operation, creating a small stomach pouch attached to her small bowel, despite the high risk of sepsis.
Prof Singhal is one of our highly qualified surgeons in the UK. He was chosen with specific care to ensure patients are in safe hands. It’s important to remember that while surgery in the UK may be more expensive, the cost comes with the quality of service, reassurance, and years of aftercare that may not be available abroad.
Ms Jolley hopes to regain her ability to eat and improve her quality of life. Bariatric surgeons in the UK frequently deal with correcting such complications from surgeries performed in Turkey, highlighting the increasing burden on the NHS and the risk to patients seeking cheaper treatments abroad.
We are proud to have Professor Rishi Singhal as our medical director, alongside a team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals. Our staff is committed to ensuring you receive the best care possible, both during your surgery and throughout the years that follow, thanks to our comprehensive aftercare package.
While private surgery in the UK may be more expensive, it is an investment in your life and health. Choosing Healthier Weight means you are in safer hands, with our 0% mortality rate and a compassionate, experienced team dedicated to your well-being.
For those struggling with surgery complications from procedures done abroad, an aftercare package is offered to provide guidance and support.
