We are delighted to announce that this week, Healthier Weight has performed the UK’s first ESG (Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty
Managing Director of Healthier Weight, Martyn Berrett, said: "We are proud to have been chosen by Apollo Endosurgery to be the UK’s first private clinic entrusted with the technology that sits behind the ESG. Apollo’s faith in us should be a source of confidence for patients. They chose us because of our specialism in bariatrics and our tradition for launching new procedures successfully. We expect ESG to be a very important procedure in the years ahead"
The ESG is a new procedure that involves stitching the stomach together from the inside to form a sleeve in the shape of a banana. It represents a breakthrough in obesity management as it delivers good, long term weight loss without surgery. The outcome of the procedure is similar to the surgical gastric sleeve
but without any of the stomach being removed and with no scars or wounds. It means that ESG's can be done as day cases and patients can enjoy a speedier recovery, returning to work and other day to day activities much faster.
Bariatric surgeon Mr Jamie Kelly
who performed the first procedure said: "This new approach is a step into the future. ESG will become a mainstream procedure in the years ahead. It’s a less invasive approach than keyhole surgery with quicker recovery. It’s a new option we can present to patients who would otherwise consider balloons, bands or sleeves"
