Common problems with the sleeve, especially in the first few months following the procedure, include retching and occasional pain behind the breastbone. These are almost always due to eating too quickly and the simple remedy is to SLOW DOWN!
Severe abdominal pain following a sleeve gastrectomy, particularly in the first few weeks or months, is potentially serious because it may indicate a leakage, ulceration and/or haemorrhage.
Caution: If you are experiencing severe abdominal pain, abdominal bloating and/or high temperature, especially within a few weeks or months of your surgery, you must go without delay to your nearest Accident and Emergency Department for pain management and investigations. Call the Emergency Helpline at 7am the next day
