Payment options for the gastric band
Gastric band surgery is life changing for the people who have it. If you have battled your weight for years it will provide the catalyst to finally take control.
Once you’ve decided on surgery, the next question is how best to pay for it. On this page we explain the options that are available to you.
Gastric Band with the NHS
It’s natural to start by exploring your options within the NHS as your treatment would be free. Unfortunately the chances of you having weight loss surgery through the NHS is almost zero unless your body mass index (BMI)is over 40 and/or you have type 2 diabetes. The financial resources in the NHS are now so limited that fewer than 500 gastric band procedures per year are being done. If you are one of those lucky few who are referred for NHS surgery you can probably expect a 2 year wait, and even then only after clearing a number of hurdles along the way, such as having to adhere to a 6 month weight loss programme.
Loan for the full surgery fee
This is an option available to all enquirers, subject to status of course. Under this option patients can apply to borrow up to the full amount of the gastric band surgery and repay it over a period of up to 4 years at an APR of 14.9%. These loans are made through our finance partner AfforditNOW. Request a personalised quotation here.
Interest free payment plan for part of the fee
If you cannot get a loan to fund your procedure, we offer another option. This is an interest free deferred payment plan under which you can defer up to £2000 of your procedure fee and repay it over the 12 months following their surgery. Under this plan you pay most of the fee upfront and the rest over the next 12 months. This plan is free of all interest and charges. All you need to do to qualify is have a permanent job and a permanent address in the UK. Request a personalised quotation here.
Friend or family support
We often find that people are helped by friends or family members to fund their procedure. This support can be offered by the other person taking a loan to fund the procedure or being a guarantor for a loan in your own name. Sometimes a parent or child will help to fund a procedure as they know it will be life changing for you.
What if you simply can’t afford it?
If you are unable to fund the procedure yourself through any of the methods above gastric band surgery may not an option for you. If not, You may want to consider the gastric balloon as an alternative. The balloon is a temporary, non-surgical procedure. While it is less invasive, safer and a lower cost, it is weaker than the band in terms of long term weight loss outcomes. Read hereabout the Healthier Weight gastric balloon package.
