Mr Li is a consultant Upper GI surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary. He studied in Oxford and Bristol before his medical career took him to Leeds and Scotland, and then to Hong Kong and Australia. Indeed, he spent a period as a surgical tutor while in Leeds. He has extensive experience in cancer treatment and is the clinical lead in oesophageal cancer at MRI, where he has been a consultant for over 10 years. His experience in weight loss surgery dates back over 20 years to 1995 when he assisted on his first gastric bypass procedure.
Mr Li is now one of the highest volume bariatric surgeons in the UK. The number of cases he does place him among the top 5% of surgeons by number of cases per year. That’s important to know because high volume surgeons and high volume centres deliver better outcomes. So, the combination of Mr Li and Healthier Weight gives you an optimal chance for success.
Mr Li does mainly gastric band and gastric sleeve cases for Healthier Weight, with a broadly 50/50 split between the two.
Surgeons often have the reputation of being multi-talented people who are very bright and can turn their hand to most things. Although our experience shows that’s not always the case, it most definitely is with Mr Li! As well as being a highly experienced and successful surgeon he plays musical instruments, talks multiple languages and somehow, we’re not sure how he finds the time, manages to run a smallholding at his home near Manchester. We know that for a couple of weeks every year Mr Li will be unavailable because its lambing season.
Patients who have their surgery with Mr Li can expect a first-class experience. His consultations are extremely thorough and you can expect him to explain all the procedures you are eligible for in detail. We get feedback from patients all the time to say what an excellent patient experience people have had with Mr Li, before, during and after their surgery.
