Mr Hayden does a full range of upper GI (gastrointestinal) procedures, including hernia repair, anti-reflux
surgery, oesophageal cancer work, as well as his bariatric (weight loss) surgery case load. He is one of the surgeons involved in the ‘by-band-sleeve’ trial that has been taking place across multiple NHS locations over the last few years. This trial is designed to compare outcomes of the 3 main surgical weight loss procedures, band
, and draw conclusions about which is best. Only high volume bariatric units are participating in this trial.
Mr Hayden has been part of the Healthier Weight surgeon team for two years now and is one of the most prolific. He has seen several hundred patients
in clinic and the feedback is always positive. Patients tell us that Mr Hayden listens carefully to their questions and ensures they are fully answered before moving on. He also conveys his detailed knowledge of the surgical options, including the pros and cons of each, in simple day-to-day language so people leave with a clear understanding of their options. Although proficient in all the procedures, most of Mr Hayden’s Healthier Weight cases are gastric bands
and gastric sleeves
. Which of the two is better suited to you will depend on how well you are able to work with the procedure.
You would think that being a full-time consultant surgeon with a busy NHS and Healthier Weight workload would be enough to keep him occupied but Mr Hayden also manages to include time for flying. Yes, he has a private pilot’s license. I’m afraid he’s just one of those very talented (and a bit annoying for us mere mortals) people who can turn his hand to most things. Perhaps best of all though he manages to do it all in a very down to earth way.
