Pre-operative advice

Congratulations! You’ve taken the first step on what we hope will be a very exciting journey for you.

Before your operation it is essential you understand what to expect and what you need to do to prepare. Take your time and read through all of the sections below.

Before bariatric surgery you need to follow a low-carbohydrate 800-900 calorie diet to reduce the amount of glycogen (storage form of carbohydrate), water and fatty deposits in the liver and thus reduce the liver’s overall size. The purpose of this is to allow the surgeon to safely move the liver aside during the operation which will reduce the risk of complications associated with surgery. This pre-op liver shrinking diet will also help with the transition between your normal diet and the 2 weeks post-op liquid diet that you will have to follow.

It is, therefore, essential for all sleeve patients to take multi-vitamins for life. Failure to do so may lead to health complications.
