My story
I thought success was for other people. Was that really me? When I saw photos of myself taken just 12 months ago, I had to fight back the tears. I wasn’t just at the cliff face, I’d gone over the edge. I was 26 stones. Where do you turn? I had been messed around by another weight loss surgery provider and called Healthier Weight on the off chance. Within 24 hours I had a consultation and within 48 hours I had had the surgery. One year on, I am 11 stones lighter*.
Confidence is the main outcome*. I have the confidence to look in a mirror, although when I see my reflection I still can’t quite believe it’s me*. I had a gastric bypass and immediately after the operation I felt differently*. It was as though a magic spell had been cast*. I didn’t want to eat unhealthily so I stuck to the regime, took the vitamins and minerals and took up exercise. I swim 40 lengths in the morning and I have bought a dog to go walking 3 miles in the morning and evening*. And yes, I am the same person who could hardly walk upstairs; who couldn’t run for the bus and who had such awful pain in his knees that simply standing used to be a problem*.
You have to be in the right frame of mind for weight loss surgery. You have to reach a point and think “Right, that’s enough”. When you do that you realise that it’s not worth spending money on a new car or holiday but on weight loss surgery*. You can buy so much more- another 10 years of life.*
