I decided to have weight loss surgery after growing concerned about my long term health. I was depressed and fed up of being stared at in public places, especially restaurants, and I was always made to feel frumpy because of the clothing range in my size offered on the high street.
I was anxious about the consultation, I didn’t know what to expect or even if I would qualify for surgery. I was happy to learn I would be able to take the next step and finally take control of my eating habits without another thought of my previous continual yo-yo dieting.
Mr. Patel, my surgeon, was very good and made me feel at ease throughout the whole process both leading up to and after the operation. He was considerate and informative as to what I could expect afterwards, in the respect of physical feelings and pain. Before the gastric band operation, I was apprehensive about whether or not I would be able to cope with such a strict eating regime. This was overcome by my confidence in Mr. Patel, and the comprehensive guidelines and support that Healthier Weight offered post-operatively.
The hospital was a clean and accommodating environment, which I felt met my standards and needs. The surroundings were pleasant and relaxing, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Had I needed someone at any point I felt confident they were there to assist me.
Since surgery I am feeling much more happy and confident about the future*. I would recommend gastric band weight loss surgery to anyone who feels they need serious weight loss or has a high obesity level*. I found it particularly hard working in a catering unit, being surrounded by food and not being able to eat normally was a real test for me! I am overcoming it with determination and with the support of my fellow colleagues.
On the medical side of things, the IBS I have suffered from in the past has greatly improved with my new diet*. Back pain was also a daily problem, but since weight loss surgery this has eased considerably*. It’s definitely changed my life for the better, and given me a new lease of life*. I have currently dropped one dress size since January 2009*, and I feel positive with this progress. My goals for the future are to learn how to dance and to travel abroad!
