Trigger for weight loss Fed up of yo-yo dieting
I'd been over weight since the age of 4. I was teased and ridiculed throughout my school years and always felt upset about being different from all my friends. Despite going on diets and losing weight, it was always short lived and I ended up bigger than when I started.
After an in-depth conversation with a very close friend I decided to research having weight loss surgery. I had one consultation at one weight loss clinic where I was advised to have a gastric bypass. There was no discussion about any other procedure. At the time I was very undecided about what to do and as a nurse I had lots of concerns about weight loss surgery anyway.
I decided to go and see Dr Ashton at Healthier Weight, and we discussed all options including a sleeve gastrectomy. Although I'd done my research I hadn't heard of this procedure before and once it was explained I was 100% sure that it was the procedure for me. (A sleeve gastrectomy is a procedure that involves the surgeon removing 3/4 of your stomach, thus only being able to eat very small meals). All my concerns about having a bypass had thus been alleviated, and I was about to have a sleeve gastrectomy.
I had the sleeve gastrectomy on 23rd January 2010 in Manchester and have since lost nearly 8 stone*. I've gone from a size 24 to a size 12*. It has changed not only my appearance, but, my whole outlook on life*. I'd always wanted to travel more and decided to take a year out of my nursing career to do just that. I travelled to America twice and to Australia and had the best year ever.
