Gastric Band

Gastric Sleeve
The Gastric sleeve (also known as the laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy) is the world’s fastest growing weight loss procedure. It has grown rapidly in popularity in recent years and now accounts for more procedures in the NHS than the gastric band or gastric bypass.

Gastric Bypass
The gastric bypass is a long established weight loss procedure. Over 30 years it has proven to be safe and effective, delivering both excellent weight loss outcomes and significant health benefits. For people experiencing weight related health problems, the bypass is usually the best procedure.

ESG
Healthier Weight were the first to perform the latest in weight loss techniques, the Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty also known as the non-surgical sleeve. The ESG involves suturing the stomach from the inside to significantly reduce its capacity by up to 80%.

Mr Loy is a new member of the Healthier Weight surgical team and an experienced Consultant Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon. He has been trained to Royal College of Surgeon’s Fellowship level in Bariatric Surgery and spent a year in the world renowned NYU Langone Medical Centre with Professors George and Christine Fielding. He operates a busy full-time NHS weight loss surgery practice, receiving tertiary referrals for primary and complex revisional surgery.

- Graduated from University of Padua, Italy
- Qualified as a general surgeon and thoracic surgeon. Performed laparoscopic surgery as early as 1991 and obesity (bariatric) surgery as early as 1983
- Worked with Dr Kuzmak to turn his concept of an adjustable gastric band into reality, culminating in the first implantation of the first LAP-BAND by Belachew in 1993
- Performed the second ever gastric band implantation just one week later
- Developed the surgical technique for the laparoscopic gastric band used by most surgeons worldwide today
- Pioneered new procedures such as SILS. In 2009 for Healthier Weight, he was the first to implant a gastric band by single incision rather than the standard 4 or 5 incisions. Implanting the band through the belly button means our patients benefit from a gastric band procedure which leaves no visible scars
- Performed international workshops where over 120 surgeons worldwide were given “hands-on” training on the laparotomic and laparoscopic application of LAP-BAND
- Published more than 150 medical articles in world journals including the British Journal of Surgery, Surgical Endoscopy, Obesity Surgery, Journal de Coelio-Chirurgie, Surgical Laparoscopy & Endoscopy, International Surgery, Hepato-Gastroenterology
Mr Periyathambi Jambulingam
qualifications: MBBS, MS, FRCS Ed, FRCS (Gen Surg)
Mr Jambulingam qualified in 1991 and completed his higher surgical training in the West Midlands, including his certificate of completion of specialist training (CCST) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. Now with extensive bariatric surgery training and experience, Mr Jambulingam has been the Consultant General Surgeon (with special interest in upper GI/laparoscopic surgery) at Luton and Dunstable Hospital NHS Trust since 2007.

Jo joined Healthier Weight in 2014 having qualified in 1996 at the University of Wolverhampton gaining a Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing Studies.
Jo has gained almost 21 years’ experience in caring for surgical patients within a wide range of specialities both in the private and National Health sectors. Jo has been specialising in bariatric surgery since 2011.
Yasmin Sarfraz
Specialist Bariatric Nurse
Yasmin joined Healthier Weight in 2011 having qualified in 2010. Yasmin qualified at Birmingham City University gaining distinction in the Adult Nursing Diploma.
Throughout her nursing career, Yasmin has gained experience in many areas of speciality, including intensive care, cardiac medicine and military trauma. Yasmin has been specialising in bariatric surgery since 2011.
